Local SEO for your business: what to do this week
A practical list to show up better when people search in your area: Google profile, website, reviews and how to measure. No promised rankings.
If you have a business with clients from one area (a clinic, an advisory firm, a print shop, an installer), local SEO decides whether you are found when someone searches "dentist in Valencia" or "accountant near me". Nobody can guarantee positions in Google, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What you can do is get right what depends on you, and you can start in a week.
Day 1: your Google profile
The profile (the box with the map, hours and reviews that shows when someone searches for your business) carries a lot of weight in local searches: it is the first thing people see when searching on a phone.
- Check that the main category is the one that describes you best.
- Review name, address, phone and hours: they must match your website exactly.
- Add real photos of the premises, the team and the work.
- Fill in the description and services using words your client uses.
Day 2: reviews
- Ask happy clients for a review right after the service, with a direct link.
- Answer all of them, negative ones too, politely and without arguing.
- Do not buy or invent reviews: Google removes them and may penalise the profile.
Day 3: your website, so Google understands it
- One main headline per page saying what you do and where.
- Your own title and description on every page, with the service and the city.
- One page for each important service, instead of a single page with everything.
- Name, address and phone visible, and a map.
Day 4: mobile speed
Run your site through PageSpeed Insights. What usually weighs most is images: a home page of tens of megabytes, uncompressed photos or animations you do not need. Replace them with light versions (WebP format) and remove duplicated scripts, for example two Google Tag Manager tags measuring the same thing.
Day 5: content that answers what people ask
Write a page or an article for each question you are asked often: "how long does… take?", "what does… include?", "what documents are needed for…?". Answer clearly and with data from your area. It is the kind of content Google can show as an answer, and also what AI assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) can use when someone asks them who to go to in their city.
Day 6: the technical basics
- Register your site in Google Search Console (free) and submit the sitemap.
- Check that every page loads over
https. - Make sure no important pages are marked "noindex" by mistake.
Day 7: measure and repeat
In Search Console you will see which searches show you, how many times you appear, how many click and at which position. At first the numbers are small: what matters is that they rise month by month. Note how many new clients answer "how did you find us?" and, if you can, how many calls and messages come from the profile.
What does not work
- Buying links or "guaranteed ranking" packages.
- Repeating a keyword in every sentence.
- Copying another site's texts.
- Promising on your site results you cannot prove.
Where what we do fits in
We review your site and your profile using public information, tell you what to fix first and, if you want, do it ourselves as part of a professional website or as an improvement to the one you have. We do not promise positions: what you can expect is a faster, clearer site that is better understood by Google and by your clients. Write to us and we will tell you what we would do in your case.
